Golden Globe Nominees

I decided today that we need to start trying to see at least *some* of the movies that have been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards. Here's the list of nominees for Best Picture (both Drama and Musical/Comedy) that I haven't seen yet:
  • The Aviator
  • Closer
  • Finding Neverland
  • Hotel Rwanda
  • Kinsey (ha! I typed "Kinda" by mistake... Freudian slip?)
  • Million Dollar Baby
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Ray
  • Sideways

It's a lot, so we probably won't be able to see them all. My personal favorites from the above list are The Aviator, Closer, Hotel Rwanda, Ray, and Sideways. I'm sure the others are good too, but they don't call to me as much as these ones do.

Thinking about Spain

Hubby and I are planning a trip to Spain for this June. We'll be staying in his dad's apartment (nice, eh?) for a few days, then heading out on a road trip, just the two of us. We bought this book to help us figure out how to organize ourselves. I haven't had a chance to really look through it and do a lot of planning yet, though. I'm starting to get excited already!

Celebrity Century goes to Europe this summer

Celebrity just announced that they'll be taking the Century to Europe this summer! It's going to be doing 12-night Baltic cruises along with some other fun-looking itineraries. Booking opens Jan 4, so there will actually be some space available. Things have really been selling out quickly for European cruises this summer - some ships are already totally sold out of ocean view cabins!

New theme for the blog

Starting today, I'll be posting travel-related news here, hopefully on a regular basis - along with my regular "ramblings".

Dream Vacation List

  • Wind Surf Caribbean SCUBA cruise
  • Live-aboard SCUBA cruise anywhere warm
  • Paul Gaugin Tahiti cruise
  • Hiking and/or biking trip through the vineyards of France
  • African safari
  • Eco-touring through Costa Rica

That's all I can think of right now. I'll have to update this if/when (I'm sure it's more when than if) new things occur to me.

Back to reality

For a long weekend, it sure went by quick!

Yesterday Kenneth went skydiving (tandem). It was way cool. He had a *great* time.

I did yoga in the morning yesterday before we left for the skydiving.

This morning we got up early and I made it to the gym before work for my 2.5 mile run. Woo hoo! It took about 35 minutes or 40 minutes.

Long weekend, baby!

Whoever invented Labour Day, I commend you.

It's such a great feeling knowing it's Sunday afternoon and the weekend's only half over.

Running update since last entry:

Tuesday: 2 mile run/walk
Wednesday: rest day (this was optional)
Thursday: was supposed to be 2 mile run, but I bailed
Friday: rest day
Saturday: cross training - this turned out to be walking around and to/from the CNE for about 4 hours or so.
Sunday: 35 minute run/walk

I bolded the entries where I actually stuck to the plan.

I've decided to do the Run for the Cure in Montreal on October 3. It's a 5K, which in the past would have been a piece of cake for me, but nowadays I'm outta shape, so it might be a bit hairy. I've started a training program in hopes of putting in at least a half-decent effort.

Last week I wasn't sure if I was going to do it or not, so I didn't get started until Saturday.

Saturday: 40 min yoga (in the back yard!), 3 km hike (geocaching). This was supposed to be a cross-training day - I think I accomplished that!

Sunday: Was supposed to be a 30 minute run, but it rained most of the day. By the evening it had stopped, but I wasn't in the mood to run. Hubby and I walked to the convenience store and back (about a 30-40 minute round trip).

Monday (today): Was supposed to be a rest day, but I didn't do much yesterday, so I got up early today and did a 30 minute run/walk on the treadmill. I forgot to look and see how far I went.

Today, somehow, I managed to get volunteered to lead a skit for our team at the upcoming offsite meeting.

The theme is "investment" so I'm thinking we'll do a spoof on the AGF commercials ("What are you doing after work?"), or maybe London Life's Freedom 55 commercials. I think that would be pretty funny. Only thing is, they may not have those commercials in the US, so maybe nobody would "get" the joke.

I'd love to see our team dressed up as superheroes.

Here's the link to
Hope's petfinder site

And this is Hope:
A new year has arrived. It drifted in without much fanfare, as we spent the night at home watching bad movies and drinking cheap champagne (well, I drank cheap champagne, Kenneth drank beer). I got tired around 10:30 and went to bed, and missed the New Year.

It's not snowing today. It's foggy, rainy, and dreary.

We're going to get a new cat! Her name is Hope and she's all black. We'll pick her up on the 12th. I hope Fosco will like her.
